Spring into Spring | From Day to Night

Hello lovelies,

Spring is in the air! Although Autumn is my favorite season, Spring would have to be a close second (and I can’t say that I’m sad to see the Winter blues become a thing of the past). Everyone in my neighborhood is out and about – walking their dogs, entertaining outside, riding their bikes and going on runs (which I’ve managed to squeeze in after work a few days this week). Speaking of work, the warm weather has me thinking ahead in regard to my professional wardrobe. Between starting a new job (it’s hard to believe I’ve been with my new company for over a month now) and all of the wedding festivities the hubs and I have coming up (four weddings this year, two of which we are in) — I thought it would be a fun twist on a Spring post to incorporate a day and night time look by using many of the same pieces for both. After all, I’m certainly not made of money (although in my dream world I am) so I need to be extremely functional and realistic with these various expenses approaching! Alas, below is a fun little professional and evening guide that I’ve put together and they include some of my favorite items that I am currently obsessing over. Enjoy!

Spring Blog

1. Nars Audacious Lipstick in “Brigitte”, $32 {from Sephora} I’ve been a Mac lipstick girl my whole life…and my collection speaks for itself. However, one of my bests, Heather, purchased one of these bad boys for me during the holidays because she absolutely swore by it. But really though, can Nars do any wrong? The Audacious line is like no other lipstick line that I have personally experienced. The colors are super pigmented, long-lasting and have this ultra soft, creamy texture. I own the color “Brigitte” which is a nude rose. It is the perfect color for Spring and transitions extremely well from day to night.

2. Factory Metallic Tweed Tweed Panel Heather Sweater, $52.50 {from J. Crew Factory} J. Crew always does it right and metallic is hot this season. I particularly adore this sweater because it is something a little out of the ordinary and can be dressed up or down. I love mixing and matching colors and patterns and adore how it looks against the neon skirt (reference #6).

3. Balenciaga Roseblanca Perfume, $100 {from Sephora} I received this scent as a gift back in December and it is truly becoming a regularly worn scent during these warmer days! It’s the perfect amount of floral without being too sweet – think clean, fresh and a little valiant with scents of rose, white woods and citrus notes.

4. Light Pink Embellished Prom Dress, $240 {from River Island} This dress may not be the lightest on the pocket but it is one that you can wear over and over again. I’m okay with spending the money on good, quality items – particularly cocktail dresses because you can always keep them in your arsenal. Not to mention, with all of the wedding festivities occurring over these next few years (hey, we’re at that age), it makes sense to pick something lovely (like this number) and recycle! This dress…no words. It speaks for itself.

5. Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer, $34 {from Sephora} Y’all – this stuff is life changing. If you are looking to achieve the “fresh face” look this Spring, this primer will exceed your expectations! I like to mix it with my foundation before applying and the outcome is soft, radiant, dewy skin. Just dab a little on your face during the day for some highlight and go a little heavier in the evening.

6. Dickins & Jones Neon Skirt, $47.61 {from House of Fraser} I love, love, love neon! If there is a way to implement it in my wardrobe, I absolutely jump on it. However, neon can be tough to pull off in a professional environment. But it can absolutely be done and with this beautiful pencil skirt paired with the cool, neutral J. Crew Factory sweater (see #2) as of the intensity of the neon is toned down and you have one chic, pulled together look.

7. Gemini2 Patent Court Shoes, $70 {from Top Shop} Patent nude pumps are a must-have in anyone’s closet. They are super versatile and can go from day to night seamlessly.

8. Factory Stone Burst Earrings, $14.50 {from J. Crew Factory} I love these little cluster earrings! They are delicate but can add a pop of color and allure to your outfit. They look fantastic for both day and night and the best part? They’re a steal at just $14.50!

9. Essie Baby’s Breath Nail Polish, $8.50 {from Beauty.com} I’m an Essie advocate through and through. I’m also a huge fan of neutral polish, particularly in the Spring. This is hands down one of my favorite Essie colors because it’s the perfect amount of pink without being overkill. It’s soft, creamy and a functional nude polish to add to your collection.

2015 Trend Report | Home, Fashion, Beauty + All

Happy Friday!

Although this is the second week of January, I would like to pretend it’s the first real week of the year as many people were still in vacation/holiday mode last week. I am actually very excited for 2015 because it’s a great excuse to make a fresh start.

With a new year, comes a new you. Part of that happens internally but the other part can be external or what is on the surface. Sometimes people like to make a drastic hair change or try out a new style. Of course, what we choose is very personal but perhaps I can help get your wheels turning. Below are some of the big trends to watch in 2015 for every aspect of life. Enjoy!

{ HOME } Eclectic Style. Pops of Color. Jewel Tones.

Think vintage, retro, mixing patterns and textures, personal touches, rich colors.

{ Image found here }

ECLECTIC STYLE – The Rundown: This is probably my favorite trend for 2015, mostly because I feel like the style encompasses me as a person: incredibly eclectic. The mix of new and old, everything is random yet it somehow seamlessly comes together…it’s amazing. If you’re looking to change up the look of your home this year, this is a great way to do it.

POPS OF COLOR – The Rundown: Looking to make some subtle changes to your home decor? Adding pops of color will surely do the trick and it’s big in 2015. Pick up some colorful chairs, pull out your vibrant KitchenAid mixer, or even simply paint a door a different color like in the image above.

JEWEL TONES – The Rundown: Deep, rich jewel tones are a heavy hitter this year. There is something sophisticated and tasteful about them. I’m loving this look in the office/study below.

{ FASHION } Wide-Legged Pants. 70s Retro. Boho. Lace Up. Gingham Print.

I honestly could not be more thrilled about these style trends for 2015. Mostly because they remind me of the vintage, sepia-toned photos of my parents from the 60s and 70s. It makes me smile.

Style-1_Page_1Style-2

WIDE-LEGGED PANTS – The Rundown: Although I do not think skinny pants will completely disappear, I do think wide-legged pants will soon be ruling the world, and in my opinion, we are long overdue for a new silhouette.

70s RETRO – The Rundown: As mentioned above, the 70s style is back with a vengeance (and I cannot contain my excitement).

BOHO – The Rundown: The bohemian look is also making an impact on the runway for Spring/Summer 2015…so go ahead and channel your inner flower child.

LACE UP – The Rundown: Lace ties are also quite prominent for the new year – just check out the Louis Vuitton runway images alone.

GINGHAM PRINT – The Rundown: The gingham print (yes, it may also remind you of a picnic) was gaining traction in Fall 2014 but will be huge in 2015. It’s feminine mixed with classic mixed with chic and I love, love, love it!

{ Check out all of the runway images here }

{ BEAUTY } Minimal Makeup. Bold Brows. Dewy Skin. Statement Lips. Negative Space Manis.

We are now living in a time where less is more, beautiful skin is everything and making a statement on your lips and nails is a way of life.

Beauty 1

MINIMAL MAKEUP – The Rundown: A big trend this year is the minimal/nude makeup look. In 2015, less is more. We’re not saying absolutely no makeup, but a more natural look, nude shades and a “fresh face”.

BOLD BROWS – The Rundown: Remember being young and plucking your eyebrows to make them thin was cool? Well, times have certainly changed. Heavier brows are in. But not an unruly brow, a very structured, well groomed brow.

DEWY SKIN – The Rundown: This ties into the “fresh face” look mentioned in the Minimal Makeup Rundown. Bottom line: dewy skin is in. Looking clean and natural with a slight sheen is what you’ll be seeing a lot of this year.

{ Images can be found here —> Minimal Makeup, Bold Brows, Dewy Skin }

lips

STATEMENT LIPS – The Rundown: For Fall 2014, we saw a good bit of the wine stained/vampy lip. It will definitely translate to 2015, even in the Spring. But let’s be real, any statement lip is big this year. Whether you go for the newly popular orange-red, a classic red, or even a true pink – you’re in good hands.

{ Images can be found here }

Beauty 2

NEGATIVE SPACE MANIS – The Rundown: This look is all over the runway for 2015. Negative space nails are without a doubt, the next big thing.

{ EVERYTHING } Marsala

If you missed my post on the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala, you can read about it here. But to reiterate, Marsala will be huge this year. In every aspect of life – design, home decor, beauty, fashion…you name it! Below are some inspiration images of how you can implement the Pantone Color of the Year into your life!

Let’s talk about { VESTS } baby!

Happy Thursday, lovelies!

It’s been an extremely hectic week for me with both work and school but I managed to put together a little post during lunch that I’ve been thinking about for a couple of weeks now.

I really enjoy getting feedback on the blog from friends and family. I am a big fan of constructive criticism – I like to see the areas that I can improve on as this blog and every other aspect of my life are a work in progress. Remember, you can always strive for more. Furthermore, I also enjoy receiving special requests from people with what they would like to see on the blog. One of my good friends, Rachel (AKA the future Mrs. Hyneck), asked if I would do a post on fur vests. I decided to springboard off of that and do an all encompassing vest post. It’s funny, I think we all have this idea in our head of what we see ourselves wearing – we completely envision what we want but have a difficult time actually finding it. I am completely guilty of this. Luckily, I have a knack for hunting down things and have found quite a few that are just lovely.

There is no denying that vests (and particularly fur vests) are perfect for this brutally cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately (hello, Polar Vortex). Below are some of my favorite ones that I’ve been eying and swooning over. Enjoy!

Fall Favorites | Style Edition

Happy Fall Y’all!

As so many of you are aware, autumn is hands down my favorite season and even more, October is my favorite month! There is something about this season that makes me feel so warm and exuberant. The first day of Autumn, all of my coworkers asked me how I was feeling that day because they know how much I adore the season – true story. To me, Fall is for love, football, apple picking, pumpkin everything, going to the mountains and watching the leaves change colors, baking cookies, drinking a seasonal craft brew, and of course, wearing boots and slouchy sweaters. It truly doesn’t get much better than that, folks!

In celebration of the first day of October, I’ve decided to share my Fall Favorites | Style Edition (including some boots: a special request from my soul sister, Mandy). Be sure to check out the shopping guide below – all of the products I’ve chosen to showcase will not break the bank! Your wallet will thank me later.

Stay tuned for more Fall Favorites coming your way soon! Enjoy!

Swooning | Things I’m Obsessed with Right Now

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a style/fashion/decor post and I have to be honest, they’re my favorite kind. I wanted to make sure that I made the post this week particularly special because I’ve been so out of it recently and I want to ensure you, my lovely readers, that I am completely dedicated to giving you some wonderful reads!

So why have I been so absent-minded? Welp, reader’s digest version: I’ve been a crazed maniac the last few weeks as we’ve been winding down on our move (we should be completely in by the weekend – WAHOO!), I just started my final semester of graduate school this week and am required to dedicate 18 hours per week to this capstone class (adios, personal life), I’ve joined The Charlotte Chapter of the American Marketing Association and am on the Communications committee (you are looking at the new Social Media Manager of Instagram and the Marketing Trend/Innovation Blogger), AND it was just Shahin’s birth week (yes, “week”…we don’t mess with “days” around here). So of course, being that it was his first birthday with a wifey, I had to make it really great!

However, when I’m not running around like a chicken with my head cut off and I’m finally lying in bed, I tend to spend some time browsing Pinterest and doing a little online shopping (hey, everyone’s has to have their “me” time, right?). In doing so, I’ve come across some pretty awesome finds and there’s truly no rhyme or reason behind them. In other words, there’s no theme in mind – it’s not all just shoes or pieces of decor, but rather, an eclectic mix of everything…perhaps it directly correlates with how my brain has been functioning these last few weeks! Check out the things that I am currently swooning over below. And of course, I’ve included a shopping guide. Enjoy!

A Frock of Every Color | A Summer Wedding Guest Dress Guide

The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, peonies are blooming and the warm weather is here to stay (or at least for a little while). It only means one thing: wedding season. Now, it is true that people get married throughout the entire year but it almost goes without saying that Spring and Summer are popular months to tie the knot. For those of you who are not the bride-to-be or a member of the wedding party, trying to choose the perfect dress as an attendee can be tricky. You want to wear something that is appropriate etiquette-wise but aligns well with the season. Additionally, one must also consider the type of wedding and you need to ask yourself: is it cocktail, casual or formal? Are the nuptials during the day or is it an evening affair? What will the setting be? Dockside? At a beach? In an old mansion? At a museum? Is it a casual backyard gathering? Once you’ve considered these factors, you can then determine what will suit you best! If you’re like me, picking the right dress can be tough but the great thing about Spring/Summer weddings is that donning bright colors is totally acceptable. So what’s your hue? Are you a green kind of gal or are you going to rock Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid? Below are some beautiful frocks that I’ve come across that are perfect for a wedding this season (with a shopping guide to go with it, of course). Enjoy!

Trending for Spring 2014: Time Travel

Be sure to scroll to the bottom to check out the trend style guide – everything is under $100!

We are now on week five of my favorite Spring 2014 trends. Last week was “Sheer Bliss” which showcased gauzy fabrics that add a touch of romance and femininity to any wardrobe. So what is my final Spring 2014 trend that I will be highlighting? Let’s put it this way – it was something I was super excited about sharing because it brought back some serious nostalgia.

Two words: Time Travel. For all of you who grew up in the 80s and 90s, we are going to be channeling our inner young girl. The “Time Travel” trend takes us back to when things were totally awesome.

When checking out the Spring 2014 runway shows, I saw a few trends that really stood out to me: crop tops, denim on denim, overalls, neon and yes – even jelly shoes or “Jellies”. After reflecting on the research I conducted, I came to the conclusion that each of these components have a common denominator. These trends are all reminiscent of the late 20th century.

Now don’t fret – I cannot imagine frosted tips or stick-on earrings will come back around anytime soon! But make a statement with neon colors, rock your crop top and throw on some overalls – because this Spring we are in for a radical ride!

Below are some of my favorite looks from the Spring 2014 runway.

Trending for Spring 2014: Sheer Bliss

Be sure to scroll to the bottom to check out the trend style guide – everything is under $100!

We are now on week four of my favorite Spring 2014 trends. Last week was “In Bloom” which were beautiful, secret garden-esque florals which is a trend that is popping up everywhere. So what else is in store for this wonderful season?

This week, we are going to focus less on colors and prints and more on fabric. We’re talking about “Sheer Bliss”. It’s all over the runways – pretty sheer detailing, sheer panels, sheer articles of clothing paired with fun prints and solid colored fabrics…it truly transforms an outfit by adding soft, translucent and feminine features.

This Spring, whether you choose a sheer blouse, a scuba skirt with sheer detail or a dress with sheer sleeves, you are adding a touch of elegance to your wardrobe. The look I am currently swooning over is a full, midi skirt paired with a soft sheer blouse – very reminiscent of the 1950’s.

Below are some of my favorite looks from the Spring 2014 runway.

Trending for Spring 2014: In Bloom

Be sure to scroll to the bottom to check out the trend style guide!

We are now on week three of my favorite Spring 2014 trends. Last week was Monochromatic “White Out” and the week prior to that was “Candy-Coated Goodness“. So we’ve established that white on white and pastels are definite must-haves this season but surely, there has to be something with a little pop and pizazz – right!? Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging.

This week, I wanted to showcase another big trend that has been sweeping the runway and I couldn’t be any more in love with it than I currently am. One word: FLORAL.

Yes, it’s true – floral prints are a big trend to look out for this season. These are not the floral prints you’ve typically seen in the past – we’re talking about vibrant colors and patterns that still maintain a soft femininity that will make you feel like a radiant beauty in an enchanted secret garden.

This Spring, embrace the naturally romantic elements of this trend. Envision blooming prints mixed with both soft and vibrant colors together as one – a beautiful marriage of components indeed. So for this week, here’s looking at you, “In Bloom“.

Trending for Spring 2014: Monochromatic White Out

Be sure to scroll to the bottom to check out the trend style guide!

So, as announced last week, I am unveiling one of my favorite Spring 2014 trends for the next five weeks. Last week was “Candy-Coated Goodness” which showcased the sweet array of pastels that have hit the runway. Regarding silhouettes, envision a softer look with exquisite and delicate fabrics such as chiffon, silk and tulle.

This week, I wanted to focus on the polar opposite of last week’s style report and turn our attention to another gorgeous trend that I’ve been seeing quite a bit of. Monochromatic White – which I’ve dubbed “White Out“. White is always a favored look for Spring/Summer, however, I have never seen so much white on white. I die – what a chic + polished style! Trust me when I say, I am all for the pops of color and fun trends for each season but there is something about simplicity that goes a long way. White is a classic – and if you are familiar with how that term is used in the fashion world – a classic never goes out of style. The “White Out” look definitely has a more structured silhouette than most trends this season and in some cases, it can be a little boxier.

This Spring, do not be afraid to layer up on the white. White pants, white blouse, white shoes, white blazer…bring it on.

Below are some of my favorite looks from the Spring 2014 runway.
