Swooning | Things I’m Obsessed with Right Now

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a style/fashion/decor post and I have to be honest, they’re my favorite kind. I wanted to make sure that I made the post this week particularly special because I’ve been so out of it recently and I want to ensure you, my lovely readers, that I am completely dedicated to giving you some wonderful reads!

So why have I been so absent-minded? Welp, reader’s digest version: I’ve been a crazed maniac the last few weeks as we’ve been winding down on our move (we should be completely in by the weekend – WAHOO!), I just started my final semester of graduate school this week and am required to dedicate 18 hours per week to this capstone class (adios, personal life), I’ve joined The Charlotte Chapter of the American Marketing Association and am on the Communications committee (you are looking at the new Social Media Manager of Instagram and the Marketing Trend/Innovation Blogger), AND it was just Shahin’s birth week (yes, “week”…we don’t mess with “days” around here). So of course, being that it was his first birthday with a wifey, I had to make it really great!

However, when I’m not running around like a chicken with my head cut off and I’m finally lying in bed, I tend to spend some time browsing Pinterest and doing a little online shopping (hey, everyone’s has to have their “me” time, right?). In doing so, I’ve come across some pretty awesome finds and there’s truly no rhyme or reason behind them. In other words, there’s no theme in mind – it’s not all just shoes or pieces of decor, but rather, an eclectic mix of everything…perhaps it directly correlates with how my brain has been functioning these last few weeks! Check out the things that I am currently swooning over below. And of course, I’ve included a shopping guide. Enjoy!

The Big Move

Happy Wednesday, lovelies – I hope all of you are having a splendid week so far!

It seems like we’ve been working on our future home for forever now. The whole “patience is a virtue” thing definitely has a whole new meaning after this experience! But alas, I can finally say that we are officially move-in ready as of last night (thanks to the hubs and our dear friend, Andy for painting the master bedroom ceiling and trim). Shahin and I are both so excited to start this new chapter in our lives and see what all is to come! Even more, I’m ready for my two furry little hellions to have a fenced in yard to run around in!

So what’s next? The Big Move. I say it like that because I loathe (and I do mean loathe) moving. Tell me, is there anyone out there who actually enjoys it? At the beginning of my relationship with my husband (almost seven years ago), we moved several times and I always felt like a gypsy. Having not moved ever as a child, I could not understand how people did it so frequently without completely losing it because it drove me to tears almost every time! Needless to say, we have certainly not made it easy on ourselves when it’s come to this house; we’ve painted and taken numerous DIY approaches in an effort to save some dinero (which ultimately means it can go elsewhere – hellooo decor and other fun things). You can probably guess that the physical move is not going to be any different from our previous strategy. Yes, we are moving everything on our own (God’s speed). I’ve already been packing like a crazy person and of course we need to do some deep cleaning and touching up in our current abode. But how does one maintain a level of sanity while moving? Below are four steps I will be taking during this time and hopefully it can help you too if you’re planning a move in the near future!

1. Stay organized. It sounds a lot easier than it actually is. I don’t care how organized you are in every other aspect of your life (because I am borderline OCD when it comes to this), it is very difficult to keep everything (and yourself) together during a move. What I have personally found helpful during this process is Pinterest. I’m writing everything the box contains ON the box in addition to color coding by room (i.e. – kitchen is yellow, bedroom is purple, bathroom is blue and living room is green). I also have a running checklist of the number of boxes in each category to ensure all are accounted for.

2. Purging. What I mean by this is to really go through what you have and part ways with belongings. I know, it’s hard. In fact, my husband calls me a hoarder. Am I really? No. But I guess to some degree, I could be considered one. I like to think of myself as an emotional hoarder. I hold on to things that have sentimental value. I guess it’s okay to a point but there has to be a limit. I’ve sorted through many items with a fine tooth comb and have had to trust my gut instinct in many cases. If I look at an item and question getting rid of it, I end up putting it aside to donate. Why? Because if it were really that important, I would not be questioning whether to love it or leave it.

3. Have a course of action. Create a plan and implement it…it’s that simple. Are you renting a U-Haul? Are friends and family helping you? Are you going to be providing food and beverages throughout the day for those who are assisting? Are you doing everything in one day or spreading it out? So many questions that one should never left unanswered.

4. Breathe and channel your energy. Why stress over something this exciting? Is moving a royal pain? Yes. But it’s part of life and in many cases, a very fun time! Think positively and focus on the great things to come once you’re in!

The moving process begins for us this weekend and we are taking our time bringing over boxes since we are not on a time constraint. It’s best to have it done efficiently and effectively. As #4 suggests, I’m channeling my energy to all of the great things about our new home! As mentioned in my previous post (Home Is Wherever I’m With You), I will soon be sharing and updating you all on our touches, details, decor, DIY projects and ideas! Below is a little sneak peak of our home as a blank canvas! Stay tuned!

SummerSwag - Home

1. Okay, seriously, is this real life? Everyone loves a drink dispenser…especially for those Summer soirees! But a beverage dispenser that holds three different varieties of bevs together? Now, that’s magic. { Trio Beverage Dispenser from ZGallerie, $69.95 }

2. If you troll Pinterest like I do, I’m sure you’ve seen some pretty mouth-watering popsicle recipes. Simplify your life with this amazing pop maker that will make them in seven minutes or less. How about that for instant gratification on a hot Summer day? Oh, and this fun contraption comes in six different color choices. { Zoku Quick Pop Maker from Williams-Sonoma, $49.95 }

3. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been deeply fascinated with croquet for at least a solid year. I couldn’t tell you why, but it just seems like the perfect activity to go along with a cute Lilly Pulitzer dress and some lemonade – am I right? Lawn games are always fun with a group of friends. Play after a cook out, followed by a bonfire in the evening…sounds like the perfect day to me! { Verus Sports Expert Croquet Set from Target, $54.99 }

4. I can’t even take credit for this one because I was inspired to search for these bad boys after I saw them at my mother-in-law’s house. I’ve heard them called both “food domes” and “food tents” but their purpose is to shield your plates of food from insects and pests when you are hosting a dinner outside. GENIUS! And this food dome from World Market is just as darling as can be! { Willow Food Dome from World Market, $14.99 }

5. I’ve been eying different string lights for our house that we are moving into in a few short weeks. I am a sucker for lighting and I think a front porch or back deck lit up with these retro string lights would be simply divine. {Globe String Lights (25 ft)  from Amazon, $25.35}

6. Y’all…I wish I could even begin to explain my obsession with bar carts. In fact, it’s what I plan on adding to my wish list this holiday season (it’s never too early to start!). You can always find various styles of bar carts out there and they all range in price…but this one from CB2, Crate and Barrel’s contemporary counterpart, is perfect for the season (and trust, it’s one of the less expensive ones). { Porter Bar Cart from CB2, $399 }

7. I know that I am behind on the times but I just discovered my love for Moscow Mules – what a perfect Summer beverage! I had my very first one only a few months ago and fell head over heels in love. Ever since, I’ve been on the lookout for a set of adorable copper Moscow Mule mugs and just happened to stumble upon these lovelies from Birch Lane. I love that they are hammered copper rather than a smooth finish – it makes them a little more unique! How wonderful would it be to whip up your own Moscow Mules for a backyard gathering and serve them up in these? *Le Sigh* { Hammered Mule Mug Set of 4 from Birch Lane, $89 }

8. Who doesn’t love a picnic? This adorable picnic basket from Pottery Barn is precious beyond words and already comes lined with linen and a set of plates, wine glasses, flatware and bottle opener! { Rattan Picnic Basket for 2 from Pottery Barn, $99 }

9. So after tasting homemade ice cream, I immediately got on Crate & Barrel’s site and registered for this very one last year when the hubs and I were tying the knot. Turns out, it’s a pretty popular registry item…and rightfully so! It’s super easy to use and makes any flavor of ice cream OR frozen yogurt imaginable! What could possibly be more refreshing on a scorching Summer day? { Cuisinart Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt Maker from Crate & Barrel, $59.95 }

10. Needing a little inspiration for meals this season? I am always kind of stumped during the Summer but it should be less fuss than any other season and a reason to cook light. This recipe book from Anthropologie may be the answer! { Summer Food from Anthropologie, $32.50 }
